MET BALL 2011

One of the biggest events on the fashion calender, the Met Ball in New York hosts the whos who of fashion and celebrity royalty. Each year a designer is partnered with a celebrity who not only is a massive fan of their work, it is someone the designer is inspired by.

As expected Anna Wintour, accompanied by her daughter Bee, is wearing Chanel couture. Karl Lagerfeld partnered his muse of the moment Blake Lively from Gossip girl, who like so many chose to wear a neutral shade.Other trends seen were a many a sequin, crystal and detail; metallics, block colours, silks and thigh high splits.

Makeup was varied, with a number of people choosing smokey eyes- to compliment the metallics and heavy details in their dress; bronze eyes and contours; and beautifully dewy, flawless skin. Lips were kept clean, with soft washes of oranges, reds and nudes were extremely popular! Except for the minority, most kept their makeup clean, simple and effective... Softly lined eyes and lots of mascara.

Hair was mostly keep carefree and down. Soft tousled waves were all that was needed.. Loved all the hair/head accessories!

Her clutch is perfect, as is the fit of that stunning dress..

Alexa! I giggle everytime I see her on a red carpet event.
She makes simplicity an art. Knows what she likes, and
works her butt off in such a carefree way- makes you want
be her.

MAKEUP I HEART

Not because this look blows me away, but because
the entire look makes a cool statement. Gennifer is
bang on trend and works it effortlessly. Her skin looks
amazing!

No reason in particular- I just think shes stunning.
The makeup perfectly compliments the dress..

liv tyler met ball 2011 02

Liv looks just a stunning as she did 10 years ago.
Effortless chic.

Not a huge fan of the dress, but a MASSIVE
fan of the makeup. Mary Kate is a perfect example
on how to make a smokey eye sexy.. by grading it out.

rihanna met ball 2011 19

No one can ever blame the girl for not taking risks,
and the Met Ball is the place to do it. The hair is great up top, until
the plait comes down to her bum. Ew. Love the makeup though!

Alexa

Fitting timing for a new post- I do so on the day that I discover the exciting news that a lady very close to my fashion style-less heart- Alexa Chung, will be appearing on Vogue UKs June cover.

But its not only Alexa's fashion style that has me weak at the knees, its also her barely there, quick and simple makeup that has me going! I love her makeup sense, in that she never feels the need to wear too much or too over the top makeup. She works her natural features simply and effectively.

Normally on the eyes she'll line them with a dark brown kohl (know for a fact shes got a major crush on MACs Teddy Kohl Pencil), with the occassional flick. For eyeshadow colours shell tend to stick to earth matte tones, to keep it simple and effective. On the skin she has used La Prairie Cavier Foundation with the creamy concealer on top. This foundation, with a whopping price tag attached is stunning. The caiver means the skin is perfectly illuminated without too much oil in the product to cause patching, lines or giving a cakey look. She teams this product with YSL's Touche Eclat. A perfect combination of a natural looking base, with the highlighter under the eyes for a natural brighter eye.

And with a quick swipe of mascara, and one of two combos- some baby doll pink blush and matching matte lipstick; or a nice ginger blush and a nice red lip.. shes ready to go!

But dont also forget kids that its not only Alexa that knows the benefits of having a really well prepared skin under her makeup. If you ask any fashion makeup artist out there- mua's spend more time preparing the skin before makeup then on the makeup itself. Get yourself into it now, if you havnt already!

I personally use the Creme de la mer oil cleanser, so that I can use it as a double cleanser. For the days that I am wearing makeup (most, if not all ;) ). Once on the dry skin it sloughs away the malkeup, with the oil breaking down everything on the skin..then splash on some warm water to make it react and it kicks into its next stage of cleansing. I then team in with my Clarins Multi- Active day cream and my creme de la mer eye concentrate.

Alexa personally likes Keihls and Dr. Hauschka (organic brand). Both of which are lovely also.

Enjoy x

Inspiration: Mary-Kate Olsen

PRADA  Fringe Bag, BALENCIAGA Heels

Its been an interesting time for me these past few weeks. With A/W 11-12 shows coming to an end
and with S/S 11 at my doorstep, I feel a few seasons ahead and past what is now. With such amazing beauty and fashion all around me, I should be pumped! I want to enjoy the looks that are current and to do that I want to show you how I inspire myself to feel excited, giddy and welcoming to current trends.

I look at those that I admire, with their own strong sense of self and style. Over the next few weeks/months, whatever, I am going to look into those that not only I, but others are drawn to, to help myself and you get excited to add and develop our looks.

So first up is one young lady who we all grew up with, Mary Kate Olsen. One half of the Olsen twins, the two young 20 somethings have grown up from their young acting days to become some of the most successful women in business today. With their companies bringing in billions, they have got the most amazing sense of style and a real grip on the fashion industry.

Mary Kate, personally inspires me moreso- with her quirky indy, 60s, grunge style. Heavily accessorised and kholed she has become the muse for Giambattista Valli, a friend of Karl Lagerfeld and well known within the fashion circles. Her fashion sense reminds me of Kate Moss.. with skinny legs and sexy boots and heels a staple. Oversized scarves and funky sunnies, every inch of this girls wardrobe is lustworthy. Dont even mention the handbags...

In regards to her makeup, its very much earthy.. with the odd pop of colour on the lips. A standard red carpet/shoot look for her is a black/brown kohled eye, worked outwards with a brush and soft brown eyeshadows. Smolder, Teddy or Tarnish by Mac are great pencils to use, with soft browns and nude eyeshadows working their way into darker warm tones. She loves to apply mascara liberally, and you will find Macs Zoom will give you a really well built up lash, giving that heavy, chunky look.
Her skins very glowy and she has Stila's Liquid Luminizer to thank. On the lips its either a stained or applied red lip or mostly just nudes. Good nude shades are Shy Girl, Myth, Creme D'Nude and Viva Glam 2.

Her other fav products are:
- Benefits Posie Tint for the cheeks
- Keihls Body Polish
-Scott Barnes Tan
...and dont forget her staple dark red nail varnish!

Also, if you note in the last pic I posted, I really wanted you guys to undertsand how certain tones and colours can work with yours. MK has very green eyes, and she has made them really pop, by grading out her usually earthy tones to a orange. Orange and Green are complimentary colours, so will always make the other stand out! Just thought Id bring that to your attention ;) .

Hope you enjoy xx
